End of the Day Series

I commenced working on this series two years ago and it is a continuing series. I begin by setting up several canvasses in the art studio at school when students are using acrylic paints on their recycled object sculptures. I use the paint that they have left over to do underpainting and establish the overall composition of the painting. I also add pieces of dried acrylic that I’ve peeled from the students mixing trays. This is done over several sessions and then I add small details and some airbrushing to pull disparate parts together. Titles are generated after the pieces are completed. The title of the series is a term borrowed from factory glassblowers who used left over glass at the end of the day to fashion work of their own design. I begin these works by using someone else’s color choices but fashion them into my own. Some of the pieces are totally non-objective while others have collage elements added to create a theme.
