Joe Smith holds an MFA in Ceramics from Indiana State University at Terre Haute, an MS in Art Education from Indiana University at Bloomington, IN, and a BFA in Ceramics and Sculpture from Phillips University in Enid, OK. He teaches art at Oakland City University.
He has shown and lectured widely and led numerous Raku and Black Pottery workshops.
Smith's works are held in public and private collections throughout the world, including that of Fujio Cho, President of Toyota Motor Corporation, Tokyo, Japan.
