Lisa Condi was raised during the craft revolution of the 1970s and has been immersed in all manner of needle arts since childhood. She has spent most of her adult life sewing professionally. In 2005, inspired by an antique photograph, she merged her love of history, fine craft and art into her first award winning series of work.
The foundation of her art is the reproduction of manipulated photographs on fabric. The use of fabric dyes works to enliven the images by increasing their depth and personality. She also uses hand and machine quilting, appliqué, and beading to bring out the tale of each photo. Her current series combines the hard and jagged surfaces of demolished buildings with the softness of fabric.
